WinGD has delivered and installed its first ammonia engine on a new EXMAR vessel. This breakthrough positions the company as a benchmark in clean propulsion technology.
The installation of the X52DF-A engine in a 46,000 m³ gas cargo ship, built by HD Hyundai Mipo, confirms the industry’s commitment to alternative fuels. Thanks to the collaboration with HHI-EMD, the engine exhibits efficient performance with low emissions, aligning with global decarbonization goals.
How does the ammonia engine reduce emissions?
[post_relacionado]The dual-fuel technology technology of this engine allows it to operate on both ammonia and diesel, incorporating a high-pressure injection system and a small dose of pilot fuel. This configuration offers dynamic response and load handling comparable to traditional engines.
On the other hand, the environmental impact is significant: being carbon-free and produced with renewable energy, ammonia can reduce emissions by up to 90%. The company plans to deliver another optimized engine from this series before the end of the year.
Clean technology orders grow
Strong demand confirms the industry’s interest: orders have already been received for about 30 X-DF-A engines for gas tankers, bulk carriers and container ships. This trend marks the beginning of a new era where energy efficiency and emission reduction will be essential.
Likewise, the participation of pioneering operators such as EXMAR reinforces the joint commitment to adapt the industry to new regulatory and environmental requirements.
