TECNALIA has developed an experimental electrolyzer that positions Spain at the forefront of green hydrogen technology validation. This test unit, designed and built entirely in its facilities, is intended for companies to test different electrolysis technologies. electrolysis technologies and optimize their industrial prototypes.
The device, in operation at TECNALIA’s hydrogen laboratory in Donostia-San Sebastian, produces around 1 kg/h of hydrogen at a power of 50 kW. In addition to its production capacity, its value lies in its flexibility: it is prepared to evaluate both the alkaline electrolysis and anionic membrane anionic membrane electrolysis (AEM)with future options for others such as PEM.
Industrial applications of the electrolyzer
[post_relacionado]The platform is being used by national and international companies interested in improving the efficiency and reducing the costs of their electrolyzers. TECNALIA provides a controlled environment where it is possible to analyze the behavior of electrolysis cells, integrate them into systems and monitor key parameters using advanced tools.
This infrastructure is part of a broader strategy of the Basque center, which has already developed more than 80 hydrogen-related projects in the last five years. Its expertise ranges from generation and storage to the operational safety of the entire hydrogen ecosystem.

Progress towards hydrogen industrialization
The test electrolyzer is also an essential part of the project. HYNNOVAproject, led by BOSLAN, which seeks to scale-up renewable hydrogen production renewable hydrogen production technologies. In this initiative, TECNALIA plays a key role in testing electrolyzer arrays to validate their technical and economic competitiveness.
