The Norwegian group Statkraft has started the process to build its first hybrid generation system in Burgos in Spain, integrating solar and wind energy, as part of a new phase in the company’s strategy in the Iberian Peninsula.
Spain’s first hybrid solar and wind project
During the inauguration of the Cernégula wind farm, Statkraft announced the progress of the Abrazadilla project, which will be the company’s first hybridization initiative in the country. This development will be located between the municipalities of Ausines, Ibeas de Juarros, Arceo de Burgos and Revilla del Campo.
[post_relacionado]The Abrazadilla development will integrate a 16.5 MW solar plant with three wind turbines totaling 21.6 MW. The estimated investment is around 45 million euros and 75 jobs are expected to be generated during construction and commissioning.
This project has the permits for access to the electricity grid and has passed the environmental viability phase after receiving the Affection Determination Report. It now enters the public information stage, a step prior to the final authorizations.
Statkraft has highlighted that this facility will benefit from the complementary use of wind and sun, achieving a more constant and efficient production. It also reaffirms its commitment to the province, where it operates thePáramo de Poza complex.
The new Cernégula wind farm, located in Burgos, has a total capacity of 47 MW and can supply some 36,000 homes. This project included ecological integration measures such as proportional reforestation for affected trees and automatic systems for the protection of birdlife.
In collaboration with the Castilla y León Natural Heritage Foundation, Statkraft has also promoted the creation of a new wetland area in Valdivielso, with biodiversity conservation and scientific research functions.
Since its arrival in Spain in 2018, Statkraft has consolidated operations in several regions, accumulating 1.4 GW between owned and managed assets. In addition, it maintains its commitment to Castilla y León, which responds to the renewable potential of the community and the existing institutional cooperation framework.
