Siemens Energy compressors will be used in Occidental’s first large-scale Direct Air Capture (DAC) plant in the Permian Basin of Texas, USA, developed by 1PointFive, a subsidiary of Occidental.
[post_relacionado]The two compressor packages will allow the plant to capture up to 500,000 metric tons of CO 2 per year when fully operational. The announcement was made by Siemens Energy President and CEO Christian Bruch and Occidental President and CEO Vicki Hollub at the 41st annual CERAWeek energy conference in Houston, TX, USA.
Siemens Energy will supply a fully modular 13,000 horsepower (hp) engine-driven wet gas compressor package and an 8,500-hp engine-driven dry gas compressor for the DAC plant. The team will compress the captured CO 2 for further processing and pressurize the final product in a pipeline for injection into underground reservoirs.
The 1PointFive plant is expected to provide practical solutions that industries struggling to decarbonise can use to help achieve zero emissions. Captured carbon dioxide can be safely sequestered underground in salt formations or used to produce hydrocarbons to enable lower carbon transportation fuels in products such as chemicals and building materials.
Siemens Energy Chairman and CEO Christian Bruch commented on the collaboration saying: “Technologies to effectively capture and sequester CO 2 will be a must if we are to achieve our climate goals. Close partnerships with partners like Occidental are the foundation for scaling innovative solutions.”

Policy incentives such as the Cut Inflation Act are accelerating DAC technology as a climate solution to help organizations reduce their CO 2 emissions.
