The new ro-ro vessel CLdN’s new hybrid ro-ro vessel, MV Leonine, has started its first voyage from Asia to Europe with technology focused on efficiency and sustainability. This vessel is the second of its kind built by HD Hyundai Mipo for the European shipping line and represents a firm step towards cleaner logistics operations.
After delivery to South Korea, the MV Leonine passed through Changhong International Shipyard in Zhoushan, China. There, a low-friction silicone coating was applied and propulsion grids were installed to reduce the hull’s resistance to water. These modifications are designed to optimize fuel consumption and improve environmental performance.
Technical characteristics of the ro-ro vessel Leonine
[post_relacionado]At 234 meters in length and with a capacity of 8,000 linear meters of cargo, the MV Leonine incorporates an IMO Tier III compliant hybrid propulsion system. This combination of 11 MW main engines and 6 MW shaft generators shaft generators significantly reduces pollutant emissions during operation.
The Leonine is expected to join the short-haul routes that CLdN operates between continental Europe, the UK and Ireland. In particular, it will serve the growing demand for transport between Scotland, northeast England and the continent. It is scheduled to arrive in late summer.
Since 1929, CLdN has been offering comprehensive ro-ro, door-to-door and multimodal transport solutions. With a fleet of 30 vessels and more than 200 weekly voyages, it is one of the operators with the lowest carbon footprint in Western Europe.
This development reaffirms its commitment to clean technology as a strategic pillar for the future of maritime transport.
