DEME informed through a press release that it has successfully completed the installation of all the foundations at the offshore wind farm Îles d’Yeu and Noirmoutier off the French Atlantic coast.
Last XL monopile installed
The process culminated with the placement of the 61st and last XL monopile, a large foundation that represents a considerable technical challenge in deep water and rocky bottoms. DEME used its self-elevating vessel Innovationtogether with the 60-meter MODIGA system, designed to protect drilling operations from severe ocean conditions.
[post_relacionado]In addition, a 350-ton marine drill developed in conjunction with Herrenknecht AG was deployed, a key part that ensured an accurate installation in a complex geological environment.
The project was executed in cooperation with the EMYN consortium (Éoliennes en Mer des Îles d’Yeu et de Noirmoutier), comprising Ocean Winds, Sumitomo Corporation, La Banque des Territoires and Vendée Énergie. For its part, the Chinese firm Dajin Heavy Industry was responsible for supplying the monopiles.
This 488 MW offshore wind farm has already started to deliver delivering electricity to the to the French grid using Siemens Gamesa turbines turbines mounted on foundations installed by DEME.
Next steps
With the recently inaugurated operations and maintenance base, the project has an infrastructure prepared to operate continuously for the next 25 to 30 years, with the goal of supplying nearly 800,000 people with renewable energy.
After having worked on the Saint-Nazaire offshore wind farm, this is the second project in France where DEME applies drilled foundation solutions, consolidating its leadership in engineering for highly complex offshore environments.
