The Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge(MITECO) has awarded 1,223 million euros to seven green hydrogen projects distributed in five autonomous communities. A measure that seeks to accelerate the industrial implementation of renewable hydrogen through strategies that concentrate production, storage and consumption.
Promoting green hydrogen projects
The sites that have been selected as H2 clusters are Aragon, Andalusia, Castile and Leon, Catalonia and Galicia. Among them, Aragon stands out with 322 million in subsidies. Each of the proposed developments contemplates a combined electrolysis power of 2,292.8 MW of electrolysis capacity, and are expected to generate and are expected to generate some 269,000 tons of clean hydrogen annually. These projects will mobilize an investment of more than 5.8 billion euros.
[post_relacionado]The selected clusters will produce renewable hydrogen through alkaline electrolysis technology that will integrate fuel synthesis processes such as eSAF, e-methanol or ammonia. All projects ensure a minimum of 60% of the production committed to industrial consumers. In addition, they incorporate connected renewable energy plants and logistics solutions for storage and transportation.
Three of the projects are located in municipalities with demographic challenges, such as Andorra(Teruel) and two towns in Leon, which contributes to territorial rebalancing. The call also valued social criteria such as job creation, gender equality and local training. These initiatives are part of the PERTE ERHA and are aligned with the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan(PNIEC), which projects 12 GW of electrolysis capacity by 2030.
The line of aid, managed by the IDAE, responds to component 31 of the Recovery Plan and the RePowerEU mechanism. The strategy seeks to replace grey hydrogen of fossil origin, of which Spain consumes more than 500,000 tons per year, with locally produced green hydrogen. This will make it possible to decarbonize intensive industrial sectors and heavy transport, improving the competitiveness and sustainability of the Spanish energy system.
