KCI the engineers has been selected by Dragados Offshore to develop the structural design of the LanWin2 and BalWin3 substructures. substructures for LanWin2 and BalWin3two HVDC platforms that will be part of TenneT’s ambitious offshore interconnection program in the North Sea.
With these contracts, KCI not only expands its track record in the design of jackets for offshore installations, but also consolidates its collaboration with strategic industry players such as Siemens Energy. Both platforms are part of the 525 kV, 2 GW grid connection system designed to efficiently transport offshore wind energy to the mainland.
Dragados and KCI collaborate on HVDC platforms
[post_relacionado]KCI’s scope ranges from conceptual design to basic and detailed engineering development. It will be responsible for the complete structural analyses of both decks, complying with the regulations of the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Authority (BSH). These stringent German regulations ensure the safety and adaptability of the platforms to the environmental conditions of the North Sea.
LanWin2 and BalWin3 are scheduled to start operations in 2030 and 2031, respectively. They will be built at Dragados Offshore’s new production center in Algeciras, which specializes in offshore converter stations for TenneT projects. These platforms will make it possible to connect offshore wind energy generated offshore wind power to the onshore nodes in Heide and Wilhelmshaven.
KCI’s role in this project aligns with its commitment to the energy transition. By providing advanced engineering solutions for offshore infrastructure, the Dutch company is contributing to the integration of renewable energies into European electricity systems.
