The Dominican Republic presented a bill that aims to harmonize the electricity subsector by modifying legal and regulatory provisions relating to the National Energy Commission (CNE), the Superintendence of Electricity (SIE) and the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM).

If this bill is approved, among the major changes that will be implemented in the electricity subsector, is the measure to dissolve the National Energy Commission. There, it is noted that this currently operating government body has functions similar to those of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) and therefore it should be suppressed and its functions, powers and assets transferred to the MEM and other bodies that will remain in the public administration.
In addition, renewable tenders would be promoted to achieve more competitiveness in the market, but eventual repeals of laws, decrees, regulations and previous resolutions may have a negative impact on the prices of new generation plants.
