The operation of the first green methanol loading on a ship took place in the port of Yangpu, in Hainan province, and was carried out by China BlueChemical, a subsidiary of the state-owned China National Offshore Oil Corporation(CNOOC).
Ecological methanol comes from urban wastes
The fuel used in this refueling was generated from biogas produced by fermenting kitchen waste, animal manure and other organic waste, a process that converts urban waste into an energy resource.
[post_relacionado]During the operation, 200 tons of green methanol were injected, with a potential reduction of up to 325 tons of carbon dioxide. This figure is equivalent to the carbon capture of more than 19,000 trees, according to estimates provided by the company.
Wu Hongsheng, leader of China BlueChemical’s green methanol working group, mentioned that this refueling is a strategic move towards the adoption of more sustainable fuels in shipping. The company is working to expand the production of this type of waste-derived fuel.
