China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation Sinopec completed construction of China’s first megaton Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) project, the Qilu-Shengli Oilfield CCUS, which will reduce carbon emissions by 1 million tons per year, on equivalent to planting almost 9 million trees and turning off 600,000 cars.
[post_relacionado]As China’s largest complete industrial chain CCUS demonstration base and industry benchmark, the Project is estimated to increase oil production by 2.965 million tons in the next 15 years. It is of great importance to the China-scale development of CCUS and the construction of an “artificial carbon cycle” model to increase China’s carbon emission reduction capabilities as the country moves towards achieving the targets of ” dual carbon” goal of achieving maximum carbon emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060.
Construction of the CCUS project started in July 2021 and consists of two parts: Sinopec Qilu carbon dioxide capture and Shengli Oilfield carbon dioxide displacement and storage. The carbon dioxide captured by Sinopec Qilu will be transported to Shengli Oilfield for further movement and storage through the green mode of transportation, realizing an integrated application of carbon capture, movement and storage to seal carbon dioxide underground and expel oil, turning waste into Treasure.
Sinopec Qilu has recently built a liquid carbon dioxide recovery and utilization unit with a capacity of 1 million tons per year, including compression unit, refrigeration unit, liquefaction refining unit and supporting facilities for recover carbon dioxide from coal waste gas to hydrogen plant with a purification rate of more than 99 percent.
Between 2021 and 2025, Sinopec will build another megaton CCUS demonstration project in partnership with Sinopec Nanjing Chemical Industries Co., Ltd. at its affiliated Sinopec East China and Sinopec Jiangsu Oilfield oil and gas fields to achieve industrialized development of CCUS and broaden perspectives. as China moves towards peak carbon and carbon neutrality.
