The Canadian company Anaergia signed a conditional contract with New Jeju Bio to design and build a modern biogas plant on Jeju Island, South Korea. The facility will process 54,000 tons of organic waste per year and generate two megawatts of renewable energy.

This agreement extends the previously previously announced in September 2024when the preliminary award of the project was reported. A project valued at approximately 40 million Canadian dollars, and falls under the objectives of the “Waste Free Jeju 2030” program.
[post_relacionado]The plant will use anaerobic digestion and cogeneration (CHP) technologies to convert slaughterhouse waste and sewage sludge into electrical and thermal energy. This design contemplates the treatment and reuse of wastewater, in compliance with stringent South Korean environmental regulations.
New Jeju Bio selected Anaergia for its proven ability to integrate technologies into complex resource recovery projects. During the design phase, the scope was expanded to include multiple local waste streams, decreasing them into inputs for processes such as pasteurization, evaporation and digestate drying. This adaptability reinforces the circular approach of the facility.
This contract is subject to normal financial closing conditions by New Jeju Bio. In addition, the plant is expected to be completed in mid to late 2027. The project represents an economic opportunity for the island, generating green jobs and setting a regional benchmark in clean energy.
