The giant Amazon has announced an investment of at least $20 billion in Pennsylvania, with the aim of expandingcloud computing infrastructure and maintaining its leadership in artificial intelligence. The strategy includes the development of technology campuses in Salem Township and Falls Township, with the goal of integrating new locations in the region.

The proposal calls for the creation of 1,250 highly skilled jobs, ranging from data center engineering to information security. In addition, it is expected to have a positive impact on the supply chain and construction, generating thousands of indirect jobs.

They also plan to leverage this expansion in the integration of data centers with clean energy sources, including connection to nuclear power plants. This strategy seeks to strengthen AWS’ operational efficiency while reducing its carbon footprint, aligning with the company’s long-term sustainability goals.
This new phase represents the largest private investment in the state’s history. Local officials, such as Governor Josh Shapiro, have highlighted the public-private partnership that has helped expedite permitting and secure logistical support for this project. At the same time, the investment will boost tax revenues and strengthen regional infrastructure.
Another of Amazon’s goals is to invest in education through programs such as “We Build It Better,” which introduces elementary and high school students to technical learning environments. Also shining are initiatives like Think Big Experiences and the Community Workforce Accelerator, which prepare the next generation of technical professionals in cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
As part of its social responsibility plan, Amazon has launched a $250,000 fund to finance community projects in Luzerne and Columbia counties. The initiatives will focus on STEM education, environment and health, among other areas. This follows previous grants of $100,000 to combat food insecurity and promote technology education.
