A new era in power generation is unfolding in Hamburg thanks to Zeppelin Power Systems. This week, the company officially unveiled its new fuel cell hybrid hydrogen generator, designed to offer clean energy solutions in industrial environments.
The opening ceremony was attended by the city’s first mayor, Dr. Peter Tschentscher, who publicly endorsed the commitment to sustainable technologies as part of Hamburg’s drive to become a European hydrogen center.
A container that produces clean energy
[post_relacionado]From the outside, the system resembles a 20-foot container, but inside it houses a complex technological lattice: a PEM battery, lithium-ion batterycontrol cabinet, refrigeration and hydrogen cylinders. This modular design aims to diversify energy sources in industrial, marine and railway environments.
The generator, capable of delivering 50 kVA, can store up to 30 kg of hydrogen, making it ideal for applications in remote or difficult-to-access locations, and as a backup in emergency situations.
Energy transition takes tangible form
During the event, Matthias Benz, CEO of the Zeppelin Group, highlighted the company’s commitment to sustainable innovation. “This unit demonstrates our ability to integrate clean technologies in a cost-effective and functional way,” he said.
The initiative responds to the European drive to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. Technologies such as this, which operate without direct carbon emissions, are key to redefiningemissions, are key to redefining decentralized energy models and increasing the resilience of supply.
Development of hydrogen generator with industrial vision
The generator is the result of the “PEM Demonstrator” project, initiated three years ago by Zeppelin Power Systems. Keno Leites, head of the fuel cell competency center fuel cellsexplained that the company acts as a system integrator, offering hybrid solutions that combine combustion engines, energy storage and fuel cells, according to the customer’s needs.
The system was initially exhibited at the Hydrogen Technology Expo in 2024. After successive improvements, it has evolved into a complete generator, validated under real conditions.
Collaboration with key hydrogen players
The hydrogen used for start-up was supplied by MB Energy GmbHnow known as Mabanaft Deutschland GmbH. Adrian Herberger, the company’s director of hydrogen, highlighted the relevance of this collaboration as a model of technology integration for the energy transition.
Such solutions pave the way for replacing fossil fuels with clean and robust options.

With this unit, Zeppelin Power Systems takes a firm step in sustainable electrification and consolidates its position as a major player in the new hydrogen industry.
