Nanoceramic technology: Protecting concrete for centuries
Zirconia’s CeramycGuard is a modern take on the ancient roman cement technology, using a nanoceramic version that binds to concrete surfaces at a microscopic level. This makes a protective layer that is as strong as granite, shielding concrete from common forms of damage like salt corrosion and carbonation corrosion. This technology has the ability to not only restore deteriorated concrete but also prevent future damage, making it ideal for critical infrastructure such as bridges, dams, and water systems.

The challenge of infrastructure in the U.S. and the role of expertise
One of the biggest challenges in the United States today is the crumbling state of its infrastructure. With over 100,000 dams needing restoration, alongside deteriorating bridges and canals, Cook emphasizes the need for more expertise in managing restoration projects.
There’s not enough expertise that’s focused on renovation, people writing specifications, people managing restoration projects. […] We need 100 AMPP consultants managing projects around the United States, and we’re working on it.

Recognition and future expansion
Zirconia’s recently received the BEA British Engineering Excellence Award for its contributions to water infrastructure restoration in the UK. Cook believes this recognition underscores the effectiveness and reliability of Zirconia’s technology.
Looking ahead, Cook envisions expanding Zirconia’s impact across more sectors of infrastructure, beyond oil and gas, and into areas such as canals, dams, and bridges.
