LatinCORR 2025 was held for the first time in Panama City, Panama, with a result that far exceeded expectations, bringing together experts from 24 countries and positioning Latin America as a relevant actor in the fight against industrial corrosion. Juan Caballero, Chairman of the Board of Directors of AMPP at the global level, shared his vision on the challenges and progress made at this edition.
An unprecedented meeting in a strategic environment
For the first time, LatinCORR left the traditional industrial centers of Latin America such as Brazil, Colombia or Ecuador, to be held in Panama, a country with one of the most corrosive environments in the world according to international standards, due to its high humidity, proximity to the sea and the presence of critical infrastructures such as the Panama Canal.
LatinCORR 2025 stood out for its technical and formative approach, including:
- 40 international speakers with specialized topics.
- Two AMPP training courses, both with full capacity.
- Five panels of experts addressed key sectors: maritime, gas and energy, infrastructure, pipelines and transportation systems.
- Two interactive workshops.
The training rooms remained full and the feedback from attendees was highly positive. Industry professionals recognized the value of the technical sessions and networking opportunities.
The need to raise awareness in the region
One of the recurring themes in the conversation was the low awareness of corrosion in Panama, both at the business and governmental level. This situation directly affects the industry and represents an urgent opportunity for improvement.
LatinCORR acted as a catalyst of awareness, so that engineers, technicians and decision-makers understood the urgency of professionalizing the fight against corrosion, opening the eyes of many key players who now recognize the value of applying AMPP standards and becoming certified.
AMPP as a knowledge and standards engine
The association, with more than 38,000 members globally, has positioned itself as an essential organization in materials protection. Its operation combines a management team headed by CEO Alan Thomas and a network of volunteer experts who develop standards, certifications and technical content.
The result: satisfaction and projection
At the close of the event, the general feeling was one of enthusiasm and, although the next destination for the event has not yet been announced, AMPP’s commitment is to continue strengthening this key industry for the region’s infrastructure and energy.
