Energy supplier Uniper is moving forward with its decarbonization plans after selecting ITM Power as a technology partner to supply electrolyzers that will power the Humber H2ub project, located in Killingholme, UK.
Advances in production with the Humber H2ub project
As part of a competitive bidding process, ITM Power was chosen to supply six POSEIDON-type electrolyzer units of 20 MW each, reaching a total installed capacity of 120 MW. These PEM systems will use renewable energy to produce green hydrogen for the Phillips 66 refinery to replace some of the gas used in its industrial heaters.
[post_relacionado]The hydrogen generated will significantly reduce the refinery’s Scope 1 emissions, which is in line with the UK’s plans to move towards a low-carbon economy. The project is expected to be operational by 2029. In addition, the aim of both companies is to drive future expansion of the system to exceed 200 MW of installed capacity.
In April 2025, the project was included among the 27 projects selected by the British government under the HAR2 program (Hydrogen Allocation Round 2) program. Finally, the initiative has local support following a series of public consultations in 2024 and 2025, which facilitated dialogue with the communities of Killingholme and nearby towns.
