Shield AI, a company with defense technology expertise, has successfully completed its first multi-jet autonomy flights using two Kratos MQM-178 Firejets piloted by its “Hivemind” AI system. During these tests, the jets performed coordinated maneuvers and demonstrated operationally relevant collaborative behaviors.

This advancement builds on previous tests conducted by Shield AI, which included AI-piloted Firejet flights and Live Virtual Constructive(LVC) integration, which connects live platforms with high-quality simulations to enable dynamic interactions in different domains. These developments demonstrate its commitment to the creation of advanced autonomous systemsthat can operate in complex environments and in teams.

The“Hivemind system” performed all onboard calculations and handled airborne communication in an integrated manner. It also allowed the two jets to work as a team to execute complex assignments. Moreover, Tseng stressed that although the tests were limited to two jets for budgetary reasons, the AI is capable of controlling a much larger number of aircraft simultaneously.
Founded in 2015, Shield AI has been at the forefront of innovation in artificial intelligence applied to defense. Its AI pilot, “Hivemind,” has been tested on a variety of platforms, including F-16 fighter jets, MQ-35 V-BAT vertical take-off and landing drones, and various quadcopters.
