The Shell Brent Charlie Topside arrived at the port of Able Seaton on July 20, marking a significant milestone in Able UK’s leadership within the industry. This structure is the largest offshore offshore platform single-piece offshore platform that has ever been lifted, transported and delivered ashore, weighing 31,000 tons.
Shell Brent Charlie is decommissioned in Able Seaton
This operation is part of an extensive agreement that began in 2011 and was formalized with Shell in 2013 for the decommissioning of the platforms in the Brent field. On the other platforms already decommissioned, Delta, Bravo and Alpha, Able UK has achieved a recycling/reuse rate in excess of 97%. The company is committed to achieving or exceeding this figure for Charlie using its well-established supply network.
[post_relacionado]Brent Charlie also represents the fourth and final Shell Brent field platform to be decommissioned at Able Seaton. Like its predecessors, this operation involved the heavy-lift vessel Allseas Pioneering Spirit and ended with the transfer to the barge Allseas Iron Lady, which towed her into port and anchored her in the Able UK-designed laydown bed.
Once security checks are completed, the 31,000 Te structure will be moved to Pier 6, designed to support the weight of these huge structures.

Able UK strengthens leadership in energy and decommissioning
Founder and CEO, Peter Stephenson, highlighted Able UK’s pride in being a key part of the Brent Field decommissioning project, mentioning that the arrival of Shell Charlie is the result of meticulous coordination with its partners Shell and Allseas. He also stressed the importance of the company’s port infrastructure in the success of these contracts and its expectation to participate in future large-scale projects.
Stephenson also remarked on the iconic character of the Brent field field and the company’s commitment to conducting complex operations to the highest environmental standards. In addition, to consolidate its market leadership, Able UK has made significant investments in the port, including the construction of one of the most robust jetties in Europe, remaining at the forefront of decommissioning and positioning itself as a key player in the emerging industry of offshore wind energy industry..
Finally, in addition to the decommissioning of Brent Charlie, this port will also host the decommissioning of several platforms and structures of the LOGGS project in the North Sea. All this in the context of the development of the Dogger Bank offshore wind farmthe world’s largest offshore wind farm, further strengthening Able as the port of choice for major offshore projects. This demonstrates how the company covers both ends of the energy spectrum, participating in both the oil and gas and renewable energy sectors.
