Praj Industries (Praj), an industrial biotechnology company, has announced the opening of Brazil’s first ethanol project, with a large base of grains from sugar mills and other organic by-products such as starch, wheat and corn.

Praj has again partnered with brazilian companies to develop this facility. The ethanol plant will be equipped with advanced bioprocessing technology, which will enable the efficient and sustainable production of biofuels. Operations are scheduled to start this quarter and construction in the next quarter, according to Shishir Joshipura, CEO and managing director of Praj Industries NSE.
[post_relacionado]In Brazil, sugarcane has been the main raw material and, in recent years, ethanol has started to be produced from starch-based feedstocks. It will also accelerate its move toward the production of ethanol from starch, according to Joshipura. Praj has been working with feedstocks such as corn and wheat. He has extensive experience with these feedstocks and has already carried out similar projects in the UK.
Last quarter, Praj supplied a pure starch-based ethanol production plant for Fermap Industria De Alcool, located in the province of Ipiranga do Norte, Mato Grosso, Brazil. The plant has the capacity to produce 63,000 liters per day, using 150 million tons of raw corn feedstock available. The plant has low consumption ethanol modules for high ethanol yield, zero liquid discharge and almost net zero emissions.

Praj future and perspective
Praj has also started working for Be8, a major brazilian biodiesel company, and has been able to advance plans for a starch-to-ethanol plant in the region of Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul, with ethanol production capacity based on traditional corn or wheat starches.
These projects are in line with the strategy of expanding its share of international business, enabling Praj Industries share price to improve. In addition, Praj is involved in pioneering projects around the world, such as blue hydrogen initiatives in Europe, sustainable aviation fuel plants in the USA and a greenfield plant in Côte d’Ivoire, Africa.
