Deutsche Energy Terminal’ s(DET) second liquefied natural gas plant at Wilhelmshaven Terminal passes the testing phase that included performance and operational tests, the facility started operations this August 29. The Oldenburg Commercial Supervisory Authority (GAA) had issued its approval on August 1, confirming that the terminal complies with all hazardous incident regulations.

In addition, the Wilhelmshaven Terminal is operating at full capacity and ready to inject gas into the injecting gas into the German grid. This capacity was fully purchased by marketers in an auction round at the beginning of July, confirming its relevance for security of supply ahead of the next heating season.

The FSRU Excelsior uses a flexible pipeline system from ECOnnect for the direct transfer of gas to land. This eliminates the need for a pipeline bridge and reduces the impact on the marine ecosystem. The plant also integrates an ultrasonic processprocess, unique in Europe, for cleaning its seawater pipeline system.
Excelerate Energy, owner and operator of the FSRU Excelsior, expressed its commitment to Germany’s energy security. David Liner, the company’s chief operating officer, said the terminal’s advanced design reflects the strength of its technical capabilities.
In addition, Gasfin Services has been appointed by DET to manage on-site operations. Its CEO, Danny van Schie, expressed the company’s satisfaction at initiating the commercial phase of its second terminal, a demonstration of technical expertise and collaboration in the creation of high-performance energy infrastructures.
Finally, the Lithuanian company KN Energies will be in charge of commercial management and maintenance. Its CEO, Darius Šilenskis, highlighted the teams’ hard work and preparation to ensure reliable and long-term operation. Their previous experience in terminals in Lithuania and Brazil is a guarantee of technical support and management security.
FSRU Excelsiore projects that it will inject up to 1.9 billion cubic meters of natural gas into the German grid by 2025. This is equivalent to the annual heating energy of 1.5 million four-person multifamily homes. In the following two years, the FSRU’s capacity will increase to 4.6 billion cubic meters, which will cover the needs of up to 3.7 million households.
