The Greenwater 01, recognized as the world’s largest electric container ship , has begun operating regularly between Shanghai and Nanjing, two major cities in China. The ship is equipped with a main battery that reaches 50,000 kWh , and there is the possibility of adding more battery boxes to extend its navigation capacity on longer journeys. These “energy boxes” are similar in size to a standard 20-foot container, and each contain about 1,600 kWh of electricity, and can be loaded directly onto the ship to increase its autonomy.
