During the RE+ show in Las Vegas, Tesla unveiled its third generation of stationary battery systems, the Megapack 3 and a modular solution called Megablock. Both platforms are designed to offer increased capacity, efficiency and speed of installation for industrial-level power applications.
Megapack 3 and Megablock: New from Tesla
The upgraded version of the Megapack integrates 2.8-liter cells, making it possible to store up to 5 MWh per unit, up from 3.9 MWh in the previous model. The company has also redesigned the thermal system, achieving a 78% reduction in the number of connections, which simplifies maintenance and improves operational efficiency.
[post_relacionado]The Megablock groups four Megapack 3 preconnected to a medium voltage transformer and distribution boards, ready to be deployed with minimal on-site assembly.
Tesla claims that this architecture reduces installation times by 23% and can achieve a density of 248 MWh per acre. In addition, the system is rated to operate between -40 °C and 60 °C, with a projected lifetime of 25 years and more than 10,000 charging cycles.
Tesla will begin manufacturing the Megapack 3 in Houston in late 2026. The plant will have a production capacity of 50 GWh per year, aligning with the growing global demand for electric storage solutions and the need for a more stable grid for renewable sources such as solar and wind.
Both products will feature the integration of Tesla’s energy optimization software, already deployed in an operational fleet exceeding 36 GWh worldwide. This digital platform allows to manage the flow of energy based on demand, generation and costs, providing granular control over stationary storage.
