New DRI technology for European projects
This 100% hydrogen-based steel production project aims to allow all steel producers to test this emerging method using different combinations. The company will supply a 30-meter-high Direct Reduction Iron Ore (DRI) tower that will use hydrogen as the reducing agent, together with an Electric Arc Furnace (EAF).
[post_relacionado]The DRI plant, based on ENERGIRON Direct Reduction technology, jointly developed by Tenova and Danieli, will produce up to seven tons per hour at full production capacity by 2025. This “mini mill” pilot will allow European steel producers to test different combinations: Different percentages of natural gases and hydrogen can be used in the DRI plant, as well as processing a wide range of iron ores.
In addition, plastics or other waste materials can be injected into the EAF steel bath as an alternative to carbon. This DRI process paves the way for more sustainable and lower carbon steel production.
