With a capacity to produce filters capable of capturing up to 10 million tons of CO₂ per year, Svante Technologies Inc. has launched its Carbon Capture and Removal Center of Excellence, the world’s first carbon capture and removal filter gigafactory. The Redwood Manufacturing Facility, located in Burnaby, Canada, is positioned as a turning point in the fight against industrial emissions.
Direct application in high emissivity industries
Svante’s new Center of Excellence targets industrial sectors that generate high concentrations of CO₂in their exhaust gases, such as cement manufacturing, the steel industry, pulp and paper production, and waste-to-energy plants. For these cases, the company has developed structured filters coated with metal-organic frameworks (MOF), highly porous materials that improve CO₂ adsorption efficiency under post-combustion conditions.

The design of the filters also responds to modularity criteria, allowing their integration into various plant configurations without the need for significant structural modifications. Financing to scale up climate solutions
The project has been backed by a $145 million investment, with participation from strategic players such as Chevron New Energies, GE Vernova, Samsung E&A and Canada Growth Fund. This financial base will allow Svante to scale its modular manufacturing model and establish future facilities to meet the growing demand for carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies.
Integration with DAC technologies and hybrid systems
In addition to its focus on stationary emission sources, Svante also produces CO₂ filters for companies such as Climeworks, specializing in. direct capture of CO₂ from the air. (DAC). The third generation of this technology (DAC Gen 3) has been shown to reduce the energy consumption required for regeneration and double the capture density per volume, increasing its viability in large-scale atmospheric removal contexts.
Standardization and automation in the filter gigafactory
In technical terms, the standardization allows for greater efficiency in inventory management, reduced installation times, and substantially improved traceability of the materials used. These features are essential to achieve industrial scalability in carbon capture solutions, especially in contexts where regulatory frameworks require detailed verification of the performance of each component.
The Redwood plant seeks to industrialize components for the removal of carbon carbon removalby implementing automated production processes and standardized designs, which will reduce costs and improve the replicability of its solutions. This capability positions Svante as a central supplier in the supply chain for global industrial decarbonization initiatives.
