Japanese company Tmsuk has unveiled its “SPD-X” robot , a development that promises to transform pipeline inspection and repair in a variety of environments. This 16-legged robot is capable of operating in tight spaces and dangerous conditions where humans cannot access.

The SPD-X robot is an improved model
The SPD-X is a further development of the previous SPD1 model launched in 2022. With twice as many legs as its predecessor, the new robot ensures exceptional stability when moving through long and narrow pipes . It also features a high-resolution omnidirectional camera that facilitates detailed inspection in real time.
Among its technical features, the SPD-X has a compact size of 18 x 18 x 50 cm and weighs only 9.1 Kg, allowing it to move easily in ducts from 200 mm in diameter. Its travel speed is 0.3 km/h, sufficient for thorough inspections in complex environments. It is designed to overcome obstacles such as sediments (soil, waste) and uneven surfaces, adapting to multiple industrial environments .
Safe and risk-free pipeline inspection
The SPD-X stands out for its modular design, allowing its components to be customized to the specific needs of the environment . Its remote operation capability, using a gamepad-type controller, reduces occupational risks by replacing human intervention in hazardous situations.
This advancement is part of Tmsuk’s ongoing effort to respond to infrastructure challenges such as labor shortages and the complexity of repairs to underground systems. The company, with more than 25 years of experience in robotics , continues to position itself as a leader in developing technology for infrastructure construction and maintenance.
Thanks to the use of 3D simulators and extensive testing, the SPD-X robot has proven to be able to adapt to the most challenging conditions. This type of technology promises to improve efficiency in inspections and repairs and minimize risks for workers .
It is important to note that Tmsuk continues to investigate how to optimize this model and develop new functions that will expand its use in sectors such as construction , waste management and other industrial applications.
