The multinational mining company Sibanye-Stillwater has signed an agreement to acquire Metallix Refining, a U.S. company specializing in the recycling of precious metals, for an estimated enterprise value of $105 million.

Based in North Carolina, Metallix has operated for more than six decades in the treatment of industrial waste containing metals such as gold, silver, platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium and copper. In 2024 alone, it processed about 4.2 million pounds of materials, extracting more than 20,000 ounces of gold and nearly 900,000 ounces of silver, among other strategic metals.
