The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) granted approval in principle to SBM Offshore’s NearZero design. This preliminary validation recognizes the technical feasibility of a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit that integrates low-emission technologies aimed at transforming the future of offshore energy.
NearZero FPSO design and built-in technology
The NearZero unit is aligned with SBM’s standardized Fast4Ward model and is designed to operate with a near-zero Scope 3 carbon emissions profile. This is achieved through the implementation of components such as all-electric topsides, enclosed flare systems, carbon capture mechanisms and a deep seawater intake infrastructure.
