Samarco , a company specializing in the production of fine iron-based pellets, has begun its consolidation in operational recovery. On December 16, the company completed one of the most important stages of its reactivation plan by doubling its installed capacity, thus reaching an estimated production of 15 million tons by 2025, double that recorded at the beginning of the reactivation in 2020.

The achievement was realized with the reactivation of Concentrator 2 and the implementation of a new waste filtration plant at the Germano Complex ( MG ). These improvements, together with a new pelletizing plant at the Ubu Complex ( ES ), are part of a strategic plan that seeks to guarantee the safety, efficiency and sustainability of mining operations. Total investment in these projects exceeded R$ 1.6 billion.

Samarco is also focused on technological innovation. For example, the Pelletizing Plant 3 ( P3 ) has been upgraded with new technologies that optimize processes, improving efficiency and reducing environmental impact . The company remains committed to implementing waste reduction solutions by using mineral waste in multiple applications such as green paving and concrete.
On the other hand, the reactivation is the use of bio-oil in the pelletizing plants in Espírito Santo, a pioneering measure in the sector that seeks to reduce natural gas consumption and minimize the company’s carbon footprint.
With these advances, Samarco is preparing to take the next steps towards 100% of installed capacity by 2028, with the reactivation of more plants and the construction of a new waste filtration plant in Minas Gerais.
