RWE has taken a significant step in the construction of its Nordseecluster offshore wind project . The first foundations for the project, which will be built in the North Sea, 50 kilometers north of the island of Juist, were unloaded at the home port of Eemshaven, Netherlands.
This step marks the start of the construction phase of the project’s first cluster, which will reach a capacity of 660 megawatts (MW) . With an estimated total capacity of 1.6 gigawatts (GW), the Nordseecluster will be the largest offshore wind project off the German coast .
A step towards cleaner and more sustainable energy
[post_relacionado]The Nordseecluster project is one of the largest in the field of offshore wind energy and stands out for its capacity to generate enough electricity to supply approximately 1.6 million homes.
The infrastructure required to carry out this ambitious project is being successfully developed in Eemshaven, a strategic port that offers more than 260,000 square meters of storage and transit space for the enormous monopile foundations , which weigh around 1,500 tons each.
From Eemshaven, the company is also developing the Danish Thor offshore wind farm , as well as the OranjeWind project in the Netherlands, in collaboration with TotalEnergies. These synergies allow for maximum resource utilization and optimization of port infrastructure.
The future of the Nordseecluster project in the North Sea
The Nordseecluster will be developed in two phases. The first phase, Cluster A, with 660 MW, will be completed in 2027. This will be followed by Cluster B, which will add another 900 MW and a total of 60 wind turbines . Commercial operation of the entire cluster is expected to begin in early 2029.
With a total capacity of 1.6 GW, the North Sea cluster will contribute to reducing carbon emissions, helping Germany meet its climate goals.
