The renowned California-based aerospace company Rocket Lab has been selected to participate in two government programs focused on developing hypersonic technology. This designation strengthens its presence as a leading supplier to the US and UK defense sectors through the use of its HASTE suborbital test vehicle .
The implementation of hypersonic technology with HASTE
Under the U.S. Air Force’s Enterprise-wide Agile Acquisition Contract ( EWAAC ) program, Rocket Lab will be part of an IDIQ contract valued at up to $46 billion and valid through 2031.
[post_relacionado]The focus of this program is on the rapid incorporation of advanced techniques, with the HASTE rocket representing a multifunctional tool for high-speed hypersonic testing at a competitive cost structure.
The HASTE, a derivative of the Electron rocket , can reach speeds exceeding 7.5 km/s and support payloads of up to 700 kg, making it an ideal platform for validating air-breathing, glide, and atmospheric reentry technologies. The space company has also successfully flown three missions for the U.S. Department of Defense from its platform in Virginia.
The UK Ministry of Defence has also incorporated Rocket Lab into its HTCDF ( Hypersonic Technologies and Capability Development Framework ), with a budget of $1.3 billion.
Rocket Lab will be eligible to apply for contracts and tenders to offer testing and technology services using the HASTE platform . This opportunity represents an expansion of its presence in Europe and strengthens its strategy as a global provider of advanced aerospace technologies.
The synergy between its Electron and HASTE launchers has enabled the deployment of more than 200 payloads from its facilities in the United States and New Zealand, cementing its reputation as one of the most prolific companies in light orbital flight.
Keeping pace with global advancements means more affordable testing at a faster pace, thus pushing the boundaries of hypersonic technology.
