The offshore wind farm off the French Atlantic coast continues to make progress. Half of the 61 turbines planned for the Îles d’Yeu and Noirmoutier project, a 488-megawatt plant developed by Ocean Winds in collaboration with institutional and private partners, have already been installed.
An offshore wind farm already generating power
Since June, the site has been injecting clean energy clean energy into the French electricity system. At half of its operational capacity, it already provides enough renewable electricity to supply some 400,000 people, about half the population of the Vendée department.
[post_relacionado]The wind turbines, of 8 MW each, were manufactured by Siemens Gamesa. Their installation is being carried out by the “Vole au Vent“of the Jan De Nul Group. Various local entities, subcontractors and port authorities in western France are joining in this effort. The turbine assembly is scheduled to be completed by September.
It is important to mention that the company is also leading other projects in the country, such as Dieppe Le Tréport and the EFGL floating farmfloating farm, as well as having secured an additional 250 MW concession in the Mediterranean.
The final commissioning of the Îles d’Yeu and Noirmoutier Îles d’Yeu and Noirmoutier is scheduled for the end of 2025, making a significant contribution to France’s climate and energy objectives.
