The port of Moerdijk will install an electric charging station for river vessels. This infrastructure will be the fifth within the national network of Zero Emission Services (ZES), a system that promotes the use of interchangeable battery containers for river navigation.
The project is the result of collaboration between the Port of Moerdijk, Combined Cargo Terminals (CCT) and ZES. The station will be located next to the CCT terminal, which will operate the ZESpacks exchange system with its specialized crane.
[post_relacionado]The batteries, with a capacity of 2.9 MWh each, can be fully recharged in just three hours using 100% renewable energy.
Construction of the station will begin in the fall of 2025.

The ZES system allows captains to easily replace the containers with the containers unloaded containers with fully loaded ones, eliminating long waiting times. The pay-as-you-go model facilitates adoption by river operators, making the transition to electric-powered vessels viable.
Beyond their use on ships, ZESpacks ZESpacks can also serve as a shore power source on construction sites or in areas with grid constraints. This versatility makes the system a solution for port electrification and logistics challenges in urban and industrial contexts.
The first ZESpacks are expected to be available in Moerdijk during 2026.
