As part of Singapore’s 60th National Day, the first simultaneous loading and refueling operation of liquefied natural gas(SIMOPS) was carried out at PSA’s Brani Terminal. This maneuver is an important step towards more efficient logistics with less environmental impact.
Dual technology for LNG loading and bunkering
The Kota Ocean, an 8,200 TEU container ship with an LNG dual-fuel system, played a key role in this operation. Its design allows for an immediate reduction of the carbon footprint and is part of our fleet aimed at achieving the goal of zero net emissions by 2050.
[post_relacionado]The bunkering of 4,000 m³ of LNG was completed in approximately 15 hours while the vessel was loading containers. This simultaneous mode of work reduces docking times and emissions generated during the stay in port.
The operation was made possible through coordination with TotalEnergies as fuel supplier and the support of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and PSA Singapore. This joint venture enhances Singapore’s role as a leading LNG bunkering hub in Asia.
The use of LNG as a marine fuel reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 23%, eliminates 99% of sulfur and reduces nitrogen oxides by 85%. Pacific International Lines currently has six alternative fuel vessels in service and twelve more under construction, with its sights set on cleaner fuels such as biomethane and synthetic methane.
