The company is recognized as one of the leading renewable energy operators in the United States, with 8.7 gigawatts (GW) of clean energy capacity, supporting the economic sector with the development of the 57 megawatt (MW) Camino solar farm in Kern County. This new project is in addition to the six wind farms that Avangrid has in operation in California.
[post_relacionado]This solar farm project, which includes 105,000 solar panels, is designed to supply clean electricity to approximately 14,000 homes annually. It is also anticipated that the project will generate more than 100 jobs during its construction phase, in addition to several permanent jobs once it is in operation.
Avangrid’s solar farm project location
It is located next to Avangrid’s Manzana wind farm, which has been in operation since 2012 and has a capacity of 189 MW. On the other hand, Camino Solar sits on both private land and more than 200 acres of public lands administered by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM).
The area where Camino Solar is located has been meticulously evaluated and selected as suitable for the development of clean energy projects as part of the BLM’s Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan.
Shelly Lynch, BLM’s California desert district manager, has stressed the importance of projects like Camino Solar. According to Lynch, public lands offer unique opportunities for renewable energy development, which is environmentally responsible.
