Moeve (formerly known as Cepsa) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zaffra, the Dutch company specialized in synthetic fuels created by Sasol and Topsoe. The objective of this collaboration is to analyze the technical and economic feasibility of installing e-SAF production plants in southern Spain.
This initiative is in line with the commitments to decarbonize decarbonization commitments the European Union’s aviation commitments, driven by the ReFuelEU Aviation regulationregulation, which calls for at least 6% of UFTS in airport supply by 2030, including 1.2% of synthetic fuels such as e-SAF.
Andalusia on the radar for e-SAF production
[post_relacionado]The agreement includes a first joint study to take advantage of the potential of Andalusia, where Moeve is developing the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley project. The strategy relies on the use of technologies such as Fischer-Tropsch to convert green hydrogen and captured CO₂ into liquid hydrocarbons compatible with current engines.
Carlos Barrasa, executive vice president of Commercial & Clean Energies at Moeve, highlighted that this alliance represents a firm step forward in clean aviation, while Jan Toshka, CEO of Zaffra, valued the technological and strategic synergy between both companies as key to accelerate the transition of the sector.
This possible installation of e-SAF in Spain would consolidate the country as a relevant player in the synthetic fuel value chain in Europe, in line with the objectives of the European Green Pact and climate neutrality by 2050.
