Modvion, the innovative Swedish wood technology company, has unveiled a new wooden wind tower that promises to transform the renewable energy industry. This tower is specifically designed to support the largest onshore wind turbines, such as the 6.4 MW V162 model from the Vestas Enventus platform.
Using laminated wood and natural carbon fiber, the company has created a robust solution that replaces high-carbon materials such as steel and concrete , significantly reducing the CO2 emissions associated with wind energy infrastructure construction.
International validation for the wooden wind tower
[post_relacionado]Thanks to the collaboration with TÜV SÜD, a renowned certification body, the tower’s design has been thoroughly evaluated and meets strict international standards . This endorsement confirms that the tower is suitable for supporting the operation of a large-scale turbine, with an estimated service life of 35 years.
The validation was presented at the wind tower conference in Munich on February 28, marking a step forward in the commercialization of greener wind technologies.
Next steps for series production
With its design approved, the company is ready to begin series production of these wooden wind towers , with hub heights reaching up to 219 meters . The company hopes its innovative towers will be manufactured in Sweden, contributing to a stronger clean energy supply chain in Europe and helping to drive the development of larger, more efficient wind projects .
With support from the Swedish Energy Agency, the EU’s Horizon 2020 EIC Accelerator program, and the Västra Götaland Region, Modvion is poised to change the renewable energy landscape in Europe and beyond.
