On July 29, the largest pure hydrogen gas turbine manufactured to date, the “Jupiter-1”, a 30 MW unit developed entirely in China, left the Mingyang Hydrogen plant. Its destination is Otog Banner in the city of Ordos Inner Mongolia, where it will be the core of the country’s most ambitious hydrogen-based energy storage demonstration project.
Gas turbine to boost energy conversion
Pure hydrogen turbines are positioned as key players in converting hydrogen into electricity. converting hydrogen into electricity carbon-free electricity. Their advantages include fast startup and shutdown, optimized investment per kilowatt, the ability to operate without geographic limitations, and a high power setting range. All of this is connected through an “electricity-hydrogen-electricity” scheme that seeks to maximize renewable penetration and regulate energy supply at different time scales.
The delivery of the Jupiter-1 is also a sign of the domestic industry’s breakthrough in manufacturing high-end energy equipment. Mingyang Smart Energy plans to strengthen its strategy of “wind, solar, storage, hydrogen and combustion” to bring solutions to sustainable development and the global energy transition.
