China’s first heavy-duty hydrogen railway station for commercial and industrial trains was inaugurated on Sunday, June 2, in the city of Ordos, located in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

The Batuta hydrogen station, managed by CHN Energy Investment Group, is designed to supply heavy shunting locomotives and catenary work vehicles. These are powered by hydrogen fuel cells and lithium-ion batteries.

The hydrogen-powered locomotives can operate continuously for eight hours on a single charge and have an uncharged range of up to 800 kilometers.
