HIF Global has marked a breakthrough in the synthetic fuels industry by becoming the first company to receive Tier II Design Pathway certification under the California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) program. This approval bolsters the development and commercialization of e-Fuels in the U.S. market, a key technology in the transition to clean energy.
HIF Global and e-Fuels
The LCFS is a program designed to reduce the carbon intensity of transportation fuels. Under this framework, producers that achieve lower greenhouse gas emissions can generate carbon credits, which incentivize investment in renewable energy.
[post_relacionado]The company explains in the press release that with CARB certification, it will be able to market e-SAF (synthetic aviation fuel), e-Naphtha, and e-Diesel, giving producers the ability to generate credits within the LCFS. This represents a significant opportunity for the growth of the synthetic fuels industry, aligned with global decarbonization goals.
HIF Global is a pioneer in the development of renewable hydrocarbons from the recycling of captured CO2 . It currently operates in various regions, including Chile, the United States, Uruguay, and Australia, with the goal of expanding the production infrastructure for low-carbon fuels.
Future vision
According to Meg Gentle, Executive Director of HIF’s Global Board, the potential for e-Fuels could reach a demand of 250 million tons annually by 2035, driving investments exceeding one billion dollars in new facilities, such as its plant in Matagorda, Texas.
HIF Global’s certification represents a key advancement for the e-fuels industry, facilitating the integration of these fuels into existing infrastructure without requiring modifications to engines or distribution systems. This model reduces carbon emissions and offers a viable alternative to traditional fossil fuels.
