Harbour Energy has started oil production in Phase 2 of the Maria field, located in Norwegian waters. This new development consists of a subsea interconnection of four wells to the already operating facilities in the same field. The first well began to extract crude oil safely, meeting the established deadlines and respecting the allocated budget. The remaining three wells will be put into operation in the coming months.
An efficiency model based on pre-existing infrastructure
According to Michael Zechnergeneral manager of the Norwegian business unit, Maria Phase 2 is representative of Harbour’s strategy: short-cycle, high-return projects that integrate with existing infrastructure. This phase marks the beginning of a new stage of subsea developments that seek to maintain and increase the domestic offshore production.
[post_relacionado]The consortium structure at Maria Phase 2 is led by Harbour, which holds a 50% stake and serves as operator. It is followed by Petoro with 30% and Sval Energi with the remaining 20%. This combination reinforces a technical and financial cooperation focused on maximizing the use of existing resources.
Norwegian oil production boosts global strategy
Harbour, one of the world’s largest independent oil companies, maintains a daily production of between 455,000 and 475,000 barrels equivalent. Norway represents an essential pillar of its growth plan, along with other geographies such as Argentina, the United Kingdom and Mexico. Thanks to its low carbon footprint and capacity for store CO₂storage capacity, the company is positioned as a key player in the European energy transition without abandoning efficiency in conventional production.
The operational startup of Maria Phase 2 aligns with a strategy of cost-effective expansions in mature fields through technical subsea interconnection solutions. These developments allow for reduced costs, accelerated timelines and improved return on investment in complex environments such as the North Sea. Subsequent phases will continue this modular approach tailored to the infrastructure already deployed.
