The consortium formed by Semco Maritime and PTSC M&C has successfully completed the loading and unloading of the last offshore substation for the Hai Long offshore wind project in Taiwan. This infrastructure, key to the transmission of renewable energy, is part of the development of the Hai Long 2 and Hai Long 3 wind farms , which together have more than 1 GW of installed capacity.
An offshore substation for the energy transition in Taiwan
Located in the Taiwan Strait, between 45 and 70 kilometres off the coast , the Hai Long project is being driven by a consortium comprising Mitsui & Co., Northland Power and Gentari. The current phase is progressing as planned, with the Hai Long 3 offshore substation scheduled to come online in the second quarter of 2025.
[post_relacionado]The infrastructure has been designed and built at the PTSC M&C shipyard in Vung Tau, Vietnam, where the technical team has worked on the execution of the EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contracts awarded in 2022. Semco Maritime, a company specialized in offshore solutions , has led the process together with its strategic partners.
A step forward in offshore wind energy
The Hai Long project represents a significant step forward in Taiwan’s strategy to increase its clean, renewable energy capacity. With the substation now on its way to its final destination , the infrastructure is expected to facilitate the transmission of wind energy to more than one million Taiwanese households .
Frank Holm, Senior Vice President of Semco Maritime, highlighted the collaboration with PTSC M&C and other industry players in delivering this key substation. Tim Kittelhake, CEO of the Hai Long project, highlighted the importance of this step forward in the overall execution of the wind farm and its impact on Taiwan’s energy future.
The installation of the Hai Long 3 offshore substation will take place in the coming months , consolidating Taiwan as a benchmark in the adoption of renewable energies in Asia . With this progress, the country reaffirms its commitment to the energy transition and the reduction of emissions.
