On April 23, the Freire Shipyard held the keel-laying ceremony for the Thuwal II, commissioned by the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology(KAUST). This stage marks the formal start of the construction of a vessel destined to improve Saudi Arabia’s position.
Freire Shipyard celebrates keel laying of Thuwal II
With a length of 50 meters, a beam of 12.8 meters and a draft of 3.6 meters, the Thuwal II vessel will be able to accommodate up to 30 people on board. This model will have a modular design that will allow the laboratories to adapt to the changing needs of oceanographic research, integrating state-of-the-art marine technologies. In addition, its structure is prepared for the future incorporation of environmentally friendly propulsion systems, minimizing its carbon footprint in the Red Sea.
