One structure is inspired by the catenary geometry of the iconic Gateway Arch, the “Arch Tower,” and could become the first seven-story, structurally engineered bamboo(SEB) observation tower in St. Louis and the world.
Inspiration of the bamboo observation tower
The idea came from Luke D. Schuette, founder of ReNüTeq, who as a child used to gaze in awe at the Gateway Arch with his architect father. Today, that inspiration is beginning to take shape, through collaboration with Germany’s prestigious Atelier Bildau.
[post_relacionado]The use of SEB in combination with exposed stainless steel allows for a unique curved shape and strength that positions bamboo as a direct competitor to building materials. According to Sebastian Bildau, leader of the German studio, this work reflects both the strength of bamboo and its organic aesthetics.
In addition to being an observation deck, the tower will include a library of architectural materials, a lounge for electric vehicle drivers, event spaces and a café. It is also intended to be a focal point for locals and visitors alike, offering an unparalleled view of the Mississippi River and the St. Louis skyline.
The proposal seeks to position itself as a worldwide reference in ecological architecture architecture. The use of SEB represents a clear commitment to innovation and sustainability in urban infrastructure, a trend that is increasingly necessary in the face of the challenges of climate change and the growth of cities.
