ExxonMobil recently announced a major expansion of its advanced recycling capacity with an investment of more than $200 million. This effort seeks to consolidate its leadership in the circular economy and effectively address the challenge of plastic waste . The new facilities in Baytown and Beaumont, Texas, will be operational in 2026.
ExxonMobil’s goal is to process more than 1 billion pounds of plastics per year by 2027 , doubling its current capacity. This goal will be achieved by building new recycling facilities in several regions, including North America, Europe and Asia. According to Karen McKee, president of ExxonMobil Product Solutions, this patented technology demonstrates that advanced recycling can operate at scale.

[post_relacionado]Advanced recycling makes it possible to transform difficult-to-process plastic waste into high-quality raw materials for products such as food-safe packaging, fuels and high-performance plastics. It also complements mechanical recycling by expanding the range of recyclable materials, thereby minimising waste sent to landfills .
ExxonMobil emphasizes the importance of innovation and cooperation with governments and industry to improve waste management. Since 2022, its Baytown plant has processed more than 70 million pounds of plastic and the Cyclyx joint venture has significantly improved the collection and sorting of plastic waste.
