With the objective of promoting the country’s energy security, EP Petroecuador announced that work on two inactive wells in Block 6, in the Amistad Field, will add up to 5 million cubic feet per day to current natural gas production.
Currently the field, located in the Gulf of Guayaquil, generates about 19.5 million cubic feet per day. Ongoing technical interventions do not require the use of a rig and are focused on taking advantage of areas with latent productive conditions, thus optimizing the use of existing resources.

[post_relacionado]The tasks are part of an integral planning of EP Petroecuador, aimed at reactivating wells with energy potential and strengthening the supply of the electricity and industrial sector. The public company pointed out that the gas extracted is mainly destined for the Termogas Machala thermoelectric power plant, managed by CELEC EP, as well as for various industries in the country.
During a technical visit, General Manager Leonard Bruns reaffirmed the company’s commitment to efficient hydrocarbon management and sustainable energy development.
In addition, the interventions have allowed the collection of key information on undeveloped geological formations, such as Puna and Progreso. This new technical basis will be used to project future major drilling, which will require a rig and is scheduled for the last quarter of the year.
