New York Governor Kathy Hochul has announced the finalization of contracts for the Empire Wind 1 and Sunrise Wind offshore wind projects as part of the state’s fourth offshore wind bidding process.

Empire Wind 1, developed by Equinor, and Sunrise Wind, developed by Ørsted and Eversource, are projects that together will generate more than 1,700 MW, enough to power more than 1 million homes. These projects represent the largest power generation in the state in more than 35 years and are expected to come on line in 2026.
