Portuguese utility EDP has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Energa, one of Poland’s leading energy groups, for the annual supply of 600 GWh of renewable energy. The contract covers a 322 MW portfolio combining wind projects in operation and solar installations under development in the Wielkopolska region.

322 MW hybrid PPA reinforces solar-wind model in Poland

EDP is progressing in the construction of two solar plants solar plants located next to existing wind farms, generating a hybrid generation structure that optimizes grid connection and installed capacity. The new solar plants will be operational in 2026 and will increase clean production by integrating complementary technologies.

It is estimated that the electricity generated will avoid more than 600,000 tons of CO₂ per year, which is equivalent to removing around 400,000 vehicles from the roads. This contract aligns with Energa’s ESG strategy by providing price stability and supporting the objectives of decarbonization of the country.

EDP’s expansion in Eastern Europe

The deal reinforces EDP’s position as a strategic supplier of renewable energy to companies in Europe. With more than 16 GW in long-term contracts signed globally, EDP continues to consolidate its role in the energy transition, especially in emerging markets such as Poland, where it already has more than 1.3 GW in renewable assets assets in operation.

The hybrid model adopted demonstrates a technical capacity to combine different renewable generation sources under a single contract, ensuring flexibility in the face of demand variability. This approach could be replicated in other European markets as part of a strategy that prioritizes efficiency and long-term sustainability.
