ECOLOG and the Port of Amsterdam have teamed up to develop a pioneering hydrogen terminal that will mark a change in the European energy model. From the end of 2029, 200,000 tons of hydrogen per year are expected to arrive at this terminal, located in the North Sea Canal area.
The hydrogen terminal as an energy vector
Hydrogen is establishing itself as one of the essential components in the decarbonization of industry and transport. With this new terminal, Amsterdam is emerging as a strategic node in the supply and distribution of liquid hydrogen. liquid hydrogen in Europe, boosting both sustainable mobility and emission-free industrial production.
[post_relacionado]The initiative contemplates the reception of hydrogen and also the export of captured CO₂. This will allow closing part of the carbon cycle through capture and storage technologies, which strengthens its comprehensive approach to energy transition.
Ellen Van Der Veer, the company’s development leader, has a role in the design and implementation of this terminal, consolidating the role of women-led engineering in climate change. In her position, she coordinates efforts between public and private actors to make an efficient and climate-responsible logistics network a reality.
The port of Amsterdam will have a terminal equipped to handle large volumes of liquid hydrogen, ensuring safety and efficiency. It will also be connected to logistics networks that will enable distribution to industrial centers and urban areas in northern Europe.
