Maryland Governor Wes Moore has unveiled the design for the new Francis Scott Key Bridge , a modern structure that will replace the collapsed bridge in 2024. This new project promises to be an engineering landmark and a boost to road connectivity and economic growth in the region.
A cable-stayed bridge that will mark a milestone in Maryland
The new bridge will be Maryland’s first cable-stayed highway bridge, spanning more than 2 miles and reaching more than 600 feet at its towers. The design is optimized to withstand the demands of modern traffic and improve navigation in Baltimore Harbor , with a clearance of 230 feet over the federal channel.

In addition, there will be a distance between pylons of 1,600 feet, allowing for more fluid traffic. The infrastructure is designed with cutting-edge materials and technologies, ensuring a life expectancy of 100 years.
The bridge will restore a vital connection between Baltimore and its surrounding areas and boost the local economy. The project is expected to create thousands of jobs and strengthen trade on the East Coast, ensuring an efficient flow of goods and people.
Project financing and schedule
The new bridge will be funded 100% by federal funds, with the possibility of compensation for damages resulting from the previous collapse. Final design phases are projected to be completed in 2025 , with construction expected to begin shortly thereafter.
